Vaginitis
The skin in the genital area is particularly sensitive. Impairment of the natural protective functions lead to disorders and diseases. Above all, it is important to maintain the acid mantle to ensure the moisture and lipid balance and to keep the more acidic pH 3.8 for this body area stable. How is the physiologically acidic environment in the genital area created and why? Lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli) which lives naturally in the vagina decompose glycogen in the vaginal mucous membrane to lactic acid. The lactic acid provides an acidic environment, which is primarily responsible for the protection against the invasion of pathogens. Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina that may lead to discharge, itching and pain. The cause is sometimes a change within the normal balance of vaginal bacteria or an infection. Reduced estrogen levels after menopause and a few skin disorders can also cause vaginitis. Vaginitis is an irritation of your vagina or vulva. It’s super common and usually easy to treat. Almost everyone with a vulva gets vaginitis at some point which is when your vulva or vagina becomes inflamed or irritated. This can happen when there’s a change in the normal micro-flora balance of your vagina, or if you have got a reaction to irritating products. Many things can cause vaginitis — and sometimes there’s quite 1 cause. Vaginitis symptoms may be super obvious, or barely noticeable. Sometimes there are not any symptoms in the slightest degree. It is a good idea to listen to what your vulva and emission normally looks, feels, and smells like, so it’s easier to notice any changes that would be signs of vaginitis or other infections.
