1. Nature has provided our skin with a natural defence mechanisms - a natural protective barrier also known as the "acid mantle layer". It sits on the surface of the skin and has a slightly acidic pH value of 5.5. An intact acid mantle protects our skin from harmful pathogens and helps to regulate skin's moisture balance.
2. However, most conventional cleansers in the market are usually alkaline. Consistent or prolonged usage of alkaline cleansers causes damage to the protective acid mantle, giving rise to various skin problems such as dry skin, irritation and inflammation.
